Description

Our client, a food manufacturing leader located on Annacis Island in Delta, is looking to hire a Product Development Technologist to join its R&D team focusing on the development of fresh products. This is a full-time permanent position based out of the Delta, BC production facility.

The candidate must have a good understanding and hands-on experience with product development in the food industry. The candidate must demonstrate an ability to develop specifications for new products based on critical sensory and nutritional attributes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiar with developing/formulating/commercializing food products. Good understanding of chemistry and microbiology and how they impact taste, texture, and quality of food.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment, can create bench-top/prototype samples and develop SOPs.
  • Has a strong sense of entrepreneurialism and gets excited about taking on new responsibilities.
  • Should be passionate about food.
  • Experience in a dynamic CPG environment is a plus.
  • Has a no task too small or too big mentality.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in developing new products: Responsible for all aspects of bench-top prototype creation, Lead plant trials, overseeing all aspects of trial execution, Monitor first production runs.
  • Provides technical support to marketing and sales teams as well as customers and strategic partners.
  • Develop relationships internally (technicians, production operators, quality, regulatory, sales, and purchasing) and provide technical support to commercial teams
  • Champion reformulation projects for product improvement, ingredient substitutions, cost-reduction or plant simplification
  • Develop market knowledge of fresh pasta, fresh sauces and Gnocchi in the industry
  • Set up & participate in sensory evaluation of products.
  • Organize sample shipments to customers.
  • Conduct chemical & physical lab analyses
  • Manage sample inventory of packaging, raw ingredients and finished goods.
  • Maintain R&D lab cleanliness & organization.

KEY ATTRIBUTES FOR SUCCESS:

  • Comfortable preparing and delivering presentations to customers when required.
  • Resourceful with proven problem-solving skills and great attention to detail.
  • Ability to apply analytical thinking skills in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Self-motivated with a drive to learn and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Technical understanding of ingredient functionality and food processing.
  • Passion for working with food and solid culinary skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • BSc in Food Science or related discipline required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in R&D in the food industry.
  • Manufacturing experience with fresh or frozen prepared meals is a plus

MANDATORY COMPLIANCE:

Schedule: Day Shift
