Our client, a leader in the food production industry is looking for a Human Resources and Health & Safety Generalist to join their team.

This position is responsible for providing Human Resource and Health and Safety support across the company, through a variety of people-related matters: manager/employee coaching, team mentoring, performance management, and the execution of health and safety initiatives.

The purpose of this job is to support the Safety and Health mandates and administration of the plant. The main focuses of this role is to ensure the facility is complaint under the OHSA and the Employment standards act in all areas. The job function is also to support the Human Resources and Health and Safety Manager with regards to the control and administration of WSIB, WI and LTD safety programs and initiatives.

The objective is; to foster a positive culture in a health and safety focused work environment, and to reduce/eliminate accidents, ensure all inspections/audits take place in a timely manner.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Human Resources

  • Intake of employee concerns, and counseling them through the use of programs such as EAP.
  • Maintain accurate Human Resource files for hourly employees.
  • Collaborate with each department on our hiring efforts and provide the best candidate experience from interview to job offer.
  • Monitors and maintains attendance records for hourly employees for counseling purposes.
  • Management of Ceridian Dayforce in relation to adding new hires, termination, job changes, rate adjustment etc. for all hourly employees.
  • Manage and maintain updated information of the facility’s time keeping system
  • Administrator of benefit and pension plans for hourly employees; including enrollment, changes and termination.
  • Discipline investigation as well as provide counseling to supervisors/managers in regards to the employment standards act and the collective agreement.
  • Support HR and H&S Manager on all grievance related issues, including tracking information for reports.
  • Improve current employee lifecycle by implementing best practices performance management, career development.
  • Consult with employees and provide advice on a day-to-day basis.
  • Provide management with statistical reports regarding turnover and trends of hourly staff issues.
  • Partner with HR across Canadian and US Facilities with respect to involvement in organization-wide and Canada-wide HR strategies and initiatives.
  • Responsible for the coordination of social events for the facility.
  • Administration of hourly employee recognition programs for both health and safety and Human Resources.
  • Apply a growth mindset to support team members in their performance.
  • Play a proactive role in coaching and mentoring team members and managers.
  • Provides all departments with up to date training records and maintains accurate training files for Human Resources, Quality Assurance and Health & Safety.
  • All other duties as required.

Health and Safety

  • Update supervisors/ management on new legislation and ensure plant is complaint with OHSA and internal policies and procedures.
  • Champion the company’s health and safety initiatives through government and company programs.
  • Conduct all Health and Safety orientations and WHMIS training and ensure compliancy with the OHSA and internal policies and procedures
  • Active supporter for JHSC to attend all meetings and ensure follow up is complete.
  • Assist with aspects of “security” such as but not limited to SOP’s updates corporate policy, security team and responsibilities, meeting minutes, security audit, visitor/ contractor procedures, and key and building access programs.
  • Help develops and manage the health and Safety program to ensure worker safety and compliance with relevant legislation and reduce service’s liability.
  • Recommend, develop, and coordinate as part of the customized health and safety educational programs, the health and safety management system and promote safe work ethics in all areas of the facility.
  • Conducts safety program audits.
  • Attends as a management representative and serves as a resource to the JHSC committee.
  • Continue to improve upon and deliver existing occupational health and safety training to employees such as but not limited to New Hire Safety Orientations, WHMIS, Spill Response, Lock out/ Tagout and Accident Investigation

PREFERRED HIRING CRITERIA

  • Completion or working towards HR Designation program.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a health and safety role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Certification in Health and Safety and significant knowledge of health, safety and WCB/WSIB legislation.
  • Growth mindset and a willingness to share their findings.
  • Post-Secondary education/College program or Human Resources Certificate or equivalent courses, combined with one (1) to three (3) years related experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written).
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to multi task and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong planning, organizational skills, accurate, detail-orientated and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Results oriented, able to work as part of a functional team and work independently.
  • Knowledgeable in Human Resources principles and current legislation.
  • Strong administrative skills – MS Office, Internet, Outlook, Excel, Power-Point.
