Our client, a leader in the flexible printing packaging industry is looking for an industrial engineer to join their operation in Brampton.

Day shift position

Reports to: Operations Manager

Job summary:

Supports the manufacturing process and Production Team using engineering skills to assess, manage, implement, improve, and/or revise processes with the goal of improving the efficiency of operation, safety, waste, costs and the consistency of product quality. Leads manufacturing improvement projects through participation with the Process Working Group management team (PWG).

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

Identifies and facilitates the implementation of projects that improve and enhance the manufacturing process, in a timely and professional manner:

· Monitors daily production, collecting and analyzing data in order to recognize trends and potential problem areas;

· Utilizes recognized statistical process control techniques and other measurement tools to develop, maintain and present required reports detailing the effectiveness of existing processes or supporting the need for the introduction of new processes/procedures;

· Interfaces with production, quality control and other associated areas in defining and developing required processes;

· Liaises with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Scheduling and Graphics to gather information needed to establish process conditions for jobs ensuring consistency from run to run.

· Works in conjunction with manufacturing and maintenance teams to ensure consistent operation of equipment within prescribed guidelines; Identifies set-up and run parameters; maintenance intervals and/or material specifications;

· Builds, helps implement and maintains a formalized management of change process;

· Assists Manufacturing in preparing standard operating conditions with the appropriate input from the machine operators, supervisors and technical teams;

· Develops supporting set up, run and change over documentation and facilitates all training;

· Develops technical capabilities of site staff through formal and informal coaching;

· Works with operations team to identify improvements in production materials, processes and cost savings opportunities;

· Creates and implements standard procedures, work instructions, and validation plan as required;

· Works effectively with production and quality teams to identify and implement process improvement initiatives;

· Adheres to all Quality and Health & Safety policies and procedures at all times, immediately reporting any issues to the Production Supervisor; takes lead on maintenance and implementation of safety initiatives;

· Maintains all related files in a current and accurate manner so that information is readily available for authorized individuals;

· Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

· Related bachelor’s degree (Engineering degree preferred) or manufacturing, mechanical or industrial engineer

· Minimum 3 (three) years in a manufacturing environment with an emphasis on process engineering with at least 2 (two) years in a flexible packaging environment

· Good understanding of Flexographic printing industry, ink & laminating, plate mounting experience with solventless, and packaging converting experience preferred

· Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft BI, and Microsoft Dynamics preferred

· Experience with W&H Printing Presses is a big asset (WindMoller & Holscher Equipment)

· Excellent ability to multi-task with good organizational, prioritization and project management skills.

  • Gathers and analyzes a variety of statistics and metrics used in the implementation of process improvement
  • Following standard requirements for logging, filing, confidentiality or storage of information.

Contact and Impact of Errors:

  • Contact is primarily within in the organization and within own department.
  • Impact of errors can be serious in terms of delaying production and not necessarily caught quickly.

Mental Sensory Effort:

  • Regular periods of concentration required. At least half of the day requires concentration or use of one or more of the senses. Attention to detail or correctness of procedures may be required and use and coordination of
    several pieces of information may be regularly required. Some periods of concentration (up to 2 hours) may be intense but not for more than a total of 4 hours per day. Job may require some attention to the behaviors of others.

Physical Effort:

  • All activities are of low intensity. Infrequent periods of physical strain. (i.e. less than eight times
    per day) including one of more of the following:
  • Sitting, standing, walking with little constraint
  • Lifting or moving objects up to 35 pounds
  • Freedom of physical movement
    • Regular use of fine finger movements for keyboarding, but at a pace controlled by the employee.

    Working Conditions:

    • Frequent direct exposure to the source of more than one disagreeable element during the
      day. Possibility of minor injury or occupational health problems may exist.
    • Occasional work pressure. Pressure to meet established deadlines but employees have some control over the work pace. Sometimes there are interruptions to the work flow/pace that are imposed or controlled by others.
