Our client, a manufacturing leader in the packaging industry is looking for a talented production supervisor to join their operations for the night shift.

Reports to: Operations Manager

Job summary:

Supervises the overall operation of the Converting and Printing functions through the safe implementation of industry best practices and the effective supervision of all direct and indirect reports, ensuring all printed products meet organizational and legislative specifications. Responsible for Printing, Mounting, Ink,Slitting, Lamination departments on his/her shift.

Supervisor/Management Responsibility: (45%)

  • Supervises the activities of all direct and indirect reports to ensure the timely achievement of departmental targets and organizational goals, within prescribed policies, procedures and standard business practices through the provision of regular feedback in the form of departmental meetings, objective setting sessions, performance appraisals, coaching and counselling, discipline, training and the assignment of developmental projects;
  • Assists in the hiring and/or termination of all direct and indirect reports, in accordance with prescribed policies, procedures and legislative requirements.

· Liaises on a regular basis with all management, including, but not limited to Owners, Leadership Team, Operations Manager, in order to ensure customer service standards and delivery mandates are met or exceeded;

Key responsibilities and accountabilities: (55%)

  • Liaises with planning to determine a realistic production schedule based on CSR and delivery dates in order to ensure customer service standards are met or exceeded;
  • Assists Operation Manager in establishing production targets and monitors progress on an on-going basis; advises Operations Manager of any deviation from targets in a timely manner;
  • Checks the quality of all produced products on an on-going basis in order to ensure product meets specifications; immediately addresses any issues/malfunctions within own scope of knowledge and refers all other
    issues to next level of management;
  • Ensures an adequate inventory of plant supplies is maintained, by reviewing inventory on a weekly basis and placing orders with appropriate suppliers; obtains approvals for items outside own area of authority from Operations Manager forwards invoices to Operations Manager for approval and processing.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities (continued):

  • Facilitates and/or participates in all Health and Safety Committee meetings; develops Health and Safety plans for own area of responsibility and trains staff regarding appropriate procedures; conducts all required Health and Safety procedures in accordance with legislative and organizational requirements in order to ensure employees have a saf environment in which to work and financial liabilities are limited;
  • Researches new production processes through internet search, reading and discussions with network contacts and shares findings with Operations Manager in order to enhance productivity, reduce costs and increase revenues;
  • Prepares all related reports for own area of responsibility in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Adheres to all Quality and Health & Safety Policies and Procedures at all times;
  • Maintains all related records in a confidential and organized manner so that current information is readily available to authorized personnel upon request;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing the work of direct and indirect reports during their absence

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum High School graduation. Post-Secondary education and Accredited Supervisory courses a definite asset.
  • At least 5 years related experience in progressively responsible roles with at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Excellent knowledge of how production processes effect the quality of product
  • Excellent ability to multi-task with good organizational and prioritization skills
  • Excellent ability to adapt to a fast paced, changing work environment which includes shift changes and product variation
  • High level of patience, tact, diplomacy
  • Good written and verbal communication skills (English)
  • Ability to work under moderate pressure in order to meet tight deadlines imposed by circumstances beyond own control
  • Team player able to relate with all levels of staff

Sunday night to Friday morning: 10pm to 7am
