Our client, a leader in the print packaging industry is looking for a talented set-up operator.

Department: Production

Night shift: 10pm to 6am

Reports to:Production Supervisor (through liaison with Team Lead)

Job summary:

  • Assists production staff in the operation of all production equipment in a timely and accurate manner in order to ensure production schedules are met and products meet customer, organizational and legislative specifications.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Assists in the production process of all poly products by performing any combination of the following duties:
  • Receives work schedule from Team Lead and/or Production Supervisor including, but not limited to, production time-frame, production specifications including size, weight, and quantities required and ensures in order to ensure jobs are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Follows the schedule and helps associate(s) set up the machine in accordance with the job specifications; checks schedules and ensures appropriate poly rolls are ready for reloading machines; ensures machine is continually running at maximum speed as per schedule.
  • Ensures that operators are checking the quality and specifications of bags; checks bags on a regular basis throughout the production run to ensure they meet quality and job specification requirements and standard; upgrades or downgrades product if the bag weight is not within tolerance
  • Operates production machines in the absence of regular operator(s) including, but not limited to breaks, absence and vacation
  • Performs minor maintenance and repairs within own scope of expertise and advises supervisor of any repairs required that are outside own area of expertise in a timely manner.
  • Maintains the production area in a clean and orderly manner by ensuring area around the equipment is free of clutter on an on-going daily basis; performs all other housekeeping duties as required to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Trains all set-up operators on all aspects of job duties including operation of all production equipment, in a timely and accurate.
  • Operates Reach Truck and Lifting equipment in a safe manner in order to ensure finished product is placed in stock using the appropriate stock rotation process.
  • Assists in material handling on an as needed basis.
  • Adheres to all Quality and Health & Safety Policies and Procedures at all times
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum High School graduation.
  • Minimum 1 (one) years’ related experience in a related role preferred, but not essential
  • Current certification in the operation of a Lift Truck preferred but not essential (will train)
  • Excellent ability to multi-task with good organizational and prioritization skills
  • Excellent ability to adapt to a fast paced, changing work environment which includes shift changes and product variation
  • Good knowledge of how production processes effect the quality of product
  • Good mechanical aptitude and good troubleshooting skills in order to perform simple repairs, maintenance and setup activities
  • Good written and verbal communication skills (English)
  • Ability to work under moderate pressure in order to meet tight deadlines imposed by circumstances beyond own control
  • Team player able to relate with all levels of staff
